THANKS TO THINK TANK FOR HOSTING US!
Jane Jacobs transformed how we understand cities, moving us away from seeing them as infrastructure for housing people to understanding how our human dynamics are deeply shaped by (and in turn shape) the urban environment. A fierce and tireless advocate, she stood up not just to incredibly powerful political figures but also the economic orthodoxy of her time to help communities fight for their right to exist. As we face Portland's housing crisis today, she's an inspiration for forging solutions on our own terms against those that insist that it can't possibly be otherwise.
